Shannon Gumbs

About

Shannon Gumbs is a social impact leader and educator based in Nova Scotia. She holds a BA in Criminology and Human Rights and brings cross-sector experience across gender-based violence services, criminal justice and rehabilitation, community engagement, and systems advocacy.

Her work is rooted in both frontline practice and systems-level change. Shannon has held leadership roles within the gender-based violence sector, including supervising frontline teams in crisis shelter settings, and now serves as the Family Violence Awareness Coordinator at Alice House, where she leads province-wide education and prevention initiatives for schools, workplaces, and public institutions.

Alongside her work in violence prevention, Shannon has designed and facilitated learning experiences focused on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, supporting professionals across sectors to build safer, more inclusive environments. She also works part-time in residential justice support, using harm-reduction and restorative approaches to support women navigating criminal justice involvement and community reintegration.

Guided by faith and purpose, Shannon brings a rare blend of academic insight, frontline experience, and lived perspective to her consulting work. She believes empathy is a powerful tool for change and that meaningful impact happens when education, care, and community come together.

Only through prevention education and supportive response across all spaces

at the individual level, in communities, businesses, schools, and workplaces

can we adequately address intimate partner violence at its root. By equipping people with trauma-informed training and tools, we can empower everyone to recognize warning signs, foster safer environments, support survivors and perhaps, hopefully help stop the cycle of violence.
